Terrorism is not the only scourge

Western countries have declared war on terrorism, but must now also tackle the huge problems of disease and poverty in poor countries. It is believed that 8 mil lives a year would be saved if donors provided an extra USDlr27 bil per year. This would also help countries be more stable politically.

Developing countries are benefiting from medical progress, but ill health continues to be a major problem for many poor people. Major advances have included antibiotics, vaccines and oral rehydration therapy, but problems remain, including the AIDS crisis and the high cost of many drugs.
