The Asian-language blues
Article Abstract:
Several multilingual software programs that allow Web pages to be read and written in Chinese, Japanese and Korean languages are increasingly becoming popular among Internet users who download free trial versions of the program. Software companies, such as Stone RichSight Information Technology Co., NJ Star Software Co., UnionWay and Star & Globe, however, still rely on sales through vendors because only about 5% of those who download their trial software opt to buy the full programs online. The market is forecast to rise 40% to 500 mil between 1997 and 2000.

AOL spins its web in Asia
Article Abstract:
American Online Inc (AOL) will introduce its online service in Hong Kong by 1999 through its local partner, Hong Kong-based China Internet Corp. According to AOL International president Jack Davis, the on-line information service will be developed on the existing AOL program with original local content in Chinese and English. Industry executives cautioned that AOL would find the Hong Kong sector filled since it already has over 100 licensed Internet service providers that cater to at least 300,000 users.
