The Czech insurance sector for 1991-2001: in market conditions again
Article Abstract:
Czech Republic: The prescribed premiums of all the members of the Czech Insurance Company Association (CICA), which have over a 90% share on the Czech insurance market, totalled CEK 69.2 bil in 2000. The prescribed premiums of the insurance firms totalled CEK 14.4 bil in 1991. The output of the Czech insurance sector, which is expressed by the share of prescribed premiums in Gross Domestic Product, was 3.4% in 1999 compared to 2% in 1991. The share is 7% on average in countries of the European Union (EU). The share of life insurance in total prescribed premiums was 32.9% in the Czech Republic in 2000 compared to 32.2% in 1991. The share is nearly 60% in countries of the European Union. CICA's member insurance companies had 15,836 employees in 2000 compared to 9,002 employees in 1992. CICA's member insurance firms increased their stock to CEK 12.7 bil in 1999 compared to CEK 2.3 bil in 1992.

Czech Republic: The prescribed premiums of the members of the Czech Insurance Company Association (CICA) totalled CEK 69.2 bil in 2000, 10.8% more compared to 1999. Their prescribed premiums in the field of life insurance totalled CEK 22.8 bil in 2000, 14.3% more compared to 1999. Their prescribed premiums in the field of non-life insurance increased by 9.2% to CEK 46.4 bil in 2000 compared to 1999. Their prescribed premiums in the field of car no-fault insurance totalled about CEK 13.8 bil in 2000, about 20% of their total prescribed premiums. The members of CICA arranged over 5 mil insurance contracts on motor liability insurance in 2000. The costs on the compensations of the members of CICA were CEK 33.8 bil in 2000, 4.1% less compared to 1999.
