The German market for fast food: outlook: sectoral analysis: value trends
Article Abstract:
The fast food market in Germany will continue to be dominated by burger fast food chains in value terms, registering an increase in sales of 23.2% from DM4,469 million in 1997 to DM5,506 million in 2002. Pizza, on the other hand, will continue to register the most significant growth in local fast food market, increasing their presence nationwide and gaining an increase of four percentage points in value market share between 1997 and 2002. As Germans become more willing to prefer a more diverse range of restaurants, the dessert sector of the local fast food market is expected to register higher growth during the forecast period. The others sector, meanwhile, will continue to experience an increase in sales as more chains are introduced in the local market.

The Spanish market for fast food
Article Abstract:
The number of fast food outlets in Spain will increase by 74.8% from 1997 for a total of 2,615 in 2002, but real growth is forecasted to lag behind at 53.2%. This moderate disparity is due to the tendency of expansion to be aimed at less populated areas since the main areas of Madrid and Barcelona are nearly saturated. Meanwhile, the growing popularity of the fast food concept, the increase in the number of working women, and the intention of burger and pizza companies to establish more outlets provide a positive outlook for the industry.
