The Lozi lost
Article Abstract:
Rebels in Namibia, seeking independence for the Caprivi strip, attempted to seize the town of Katima Mulilo in a poorly planned and badly executed raid. There are some 100,000 people in Caprivi, mostly speakers of the Lozi language, and they seek some autonomy from the majority Ovambo rulers. There are also Lozi separatists in neighboring countries, but demands for a Lozi state involving territory from those countries would meet with opposition. The suppression of the rebellion has involved some civilian deaths, and suspected rebels have been beaten in jail.

Efficient strategies for genome scanning with affected sib pairs
Article Abstract:
The initial genome scan in a linkage study should be as thorough as possible. The method proposed by Peter Holmans and Nick Craddock to limit the number of genotypings needed for linkage detection is basically flawed. On further investigation, however, the main conclusions of the original article are defended. Best results are achieved when the stage 1 criteria are approximately equal to one.
