The Macedonian exit route
Article Abstract:
Around 1,000 Kosovo refugees per day are arriving in Macedonia, though more are using other routes such as Montenegro and Albania. It is possible that Macedonia has reached an agreement with Yugoslav president, Slobodan Milosevic, to send Kosovo refugees elsewhere. Macedonian Serbs may fear that ethnic divisions could become a serious problem if more ethnic Albanians were to enter from Kosovo. Macedonia could offer Yugoslavia help against sanctions and even an escape route for Milosevic, should this become necessary.
