The Senate takes on Hollywood
Article Abstract:
The US Congress held hearings on Sep 13 and 27, 2000 about a report issued by the Federal Trade Commission showing that major movie studios systematically and intentionally marketed their products obviously aimed at adults to children as young as nine. The failure of representatives from the industry to attend the first hearing on Sep 13, prompted Sen John McCain to convene the second hearing on Sep 27, demanding industry executives to attend. At the second hearing, the industry promised to restrict their marketing practices.
