The bocadilleria subsector dominates the others fast food market sector in Spain with a 100% market share growth in volume terms to 343 outlets in 1997. The bocadilleria subsector has expanded at a growth rate of at least 40% every year from 1993 to 1997. The easy preparation and the uncomplicated way bocadillerias are made make them similar to home prepared meals or meals prepared by catering establishments. Meanwhile, the traditional subsector has very little expansion by 1996 and is more focused in the regional areas.

The bocadilleria subsector of the others sector in the fast food market of Spain has reported sales growth by 466.7% to Ptas25.5 billion in 1997 from 1993. From 1993 to 1997, the bocadilleria subsector experienced significant growth until 1997 wherein evidence of maturity was shown. The subsector reported an increased value share by 57.8% in 1994 but decreased to 29.4% in 1997. The bocadilleria concept has grown significantly expanding into the several regions in the country from Catalonia, Spain.
