The Taliban's strategy for recognition
Article Abstract:
The Taliban is seeking approval world wide, but this is diffcult to achieve although the Taliban controls nearly the whoe of Afghanistan. The United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan have given recognition, but there is little support elsewhere for the type of Islamic rule that the Taliban has sought to introduce. The US is concerned about the way that women are treated by the Taliban, and other human rights issues. The US also seeks the extradition of Osama bin Laden in connection with bombings in Tanzania and Kenya in 1998.
