The UK economy: feeling good but not over the moon
Article Abstract:
The UK economy seems be enjoying the return of a 'feel-good factor' in 1996, with consumer confidence and consumer spending both rising. This trend is due to factors including the low level of interest rates; declining unemployment; improvements in the housing market; and the growth in real personal disposable income. Some economists have voiced fears that a consumer led growth could lead to another consumer boom such as that of the 1980s, but this seems unlikely.

Will the UK avoid catching a cold?
Article Abstract:
A number of factors will determine whether the UK will be negatively affected by the recession threatening in the US. The UK is increasingly connected with the European Union, and may therefore not see a significant drop in economic growth even if the US does go through a depression. It is also possible that the US will avoid entering into depression.
