Shipping to Africa is about more than transport
Article Abstract:
Africa offers significant opportunities in US trade and investment. US exports to the region increased at faster pace compared to exports to other regions in 1998. The region, with over 700 million potential consumers, imports US goods 45% more than the countries in the former USSR combined. However, US exporters should also consider factors such as trade barriers, poor infrastructure, external risks and political conditions.

The US - Asia trade lane: moving your goods by air & sea
Article Abstract:
Trade between the US and the Asian region has been subjected to numerous changes in 1999, including the imposition of the Ocean Shipping Reform Act that allowed shippers and ocean carriers to freely negotiate contracts. US exporters are also expected to benefit from major infrastructure developments in Asia, one of which is the complex rail and road network in China. Other infrastructural improvements are seen in South Korea's Inchon sea port and the Chek Lap Kok airport in Hong Kong.
