The Bougainville Revolutionary Army is demanding independence for Bougainville Island, which is a part of Papua New Guinea, an island given its independence by Australia in 1975. Australia felt that Papua New Guinea needed Bougainville's copper mining revenue. The war that has ensued has cost 150 lives.

Arrows in the heart of Iran
Article Abstract:
Iranians were encouraged to reproduce enthusiastically during the reign of the Ayatollah Khomeini. They did, and the population increased by two-thirds, leading to malnutrition, poverty and illiteracy. The country's leaders are for zero population growth.

Rebels at bay: Bougainville
Article Abstract:
Papuan government forces have pinned down rebels on the island of Bougainville and are demanding that they surrender. The islanders, who are culturally and ethnically different from the Papuans want complete independence and have refused to negotiate.
