Ernst Ludwig Wynder 1922-99
Article Abstract:
Epidemiologist Ernst Wynder was born in Germany, but his family fled to the US in the late 1930s. He attended Washington University Medical School, where he gained a research prize for work on the connection between smoking and lung cancer. His research in this area attracted little attention until he extended it through research at the Sloan-Kettering Institute in New York, NY, which he entered following his medical studies. He left in 1969 to found the American Health Foundation.

Pushing the envelope: the art of the stamp
Article Abstract:
The US Postal Service has advanced the design of its postage stamps. In 1997, the USPS introduced the amazingly successful Bugs Bunny stamp, which the agency projects will earn $38 million in revenue. Traditional stamp-collectors are smarting over the new, commercial designs; while the Postal Service has enjoyed soaring stamp sales for popular designs.

Article Abstract:
The 344 items in the Byzantium Art exhibit were culled form Egypt, Israel, Syria, Turkey, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Greece, Poland, Russia and Ukraine. The time period from 843-11261 was a time when Byzantium influence was felt in the Islamic East and the Latin West. Many problems were overcome to assembly the exhibit.
