The builder's civil servant
Article Abstract:
The Building Research Establishement (BRE), based near Watford, UK, is an executive agency, but its independence is important, according to chief executive Roger Courtney. The BRE is mainly funded to fulfill governmental requirements, such as energy efficiency and building regulations, but architectural practices are also seeking its advice. The important thing is that the BRE is seen to be objective. Its development programme is based on education, and an educational centre is planned. Courtney's life is also discussed.
