Respiratory function of hemoglobin
Article Abstract:
The structure and function of the hemoglobin molecule optimize oxygen transport in the body. Hemoglobin effectively binds oxygen as red blood cells pass through capillaries in the lungs, then releases the oxygen to the tissues in the peripheral circulation. This mechanism, along with changes in cardiac function and respiration, provides reliable oxygenation through changes in exertion, altitude, temperature, and health.
