Complex equations
Article Abstract:
Insurers and bankers may have very complex businesses and the problem may be exacerbated after mergers, which can bring together different computer systems and other arrangements in the new company. Cost savings may be difficult to achieve unless complexity is reduced. Insurers and banks are seeking to standardize operations, but this is a major task. Citibank is seeking to do this, aiming to cut complexity by 75%. Banks can also emphasize variety in relation to only a few features, as Benetton has done in the clothing industry.

Wish fulfilment
Article Abstract:
A number of problems may affect online businesses which do not have precise ideas of their inventories or of delivery times, or ways of serving customers. Web retailers have tended to focus on developing brands, but logistics and merchandising have often been neglected. Companies want to increase their market share over the Christmas period, and they may attract buyers if they can attract customers. Companies need to integrate web sites with warehouses, and invest in good distribution centers.
