The casting out of Mandelson
Article Abstract:
The United Kingdom secretary of state for trade and industry, Peter Mandelson, has resigned over revelations of a secret loan from the paymaster general, Geoffrey Robinson. Mandelson has been praised for resigning. He was seen as a man due for a fall due to his sense of his own importance. There is a view that the Labor party's emphasis on ending class war is discredited, but this does not apply to the Labor party's policies, only to Mandelson himself. There is also personal rivalry among politicians, but this is not a good reason to laugh at Mandelson's fate.
