Back in the real world
Article Abstract:
Online retailing was once seen as likely to pose a serious threat to conventional retailers, and traditional retailers were seen as having delayed entering online retailing for too long to be able to compete. This view ignores consumer preferences, and the pleasure that many people take in shopping. Distribution costs can erode the advantages of online commerce. Consumers can find information on products through the internet, and shop offline. Retailers can blend online and offline operations, creating greater flexibility.
