The day of the great postponement
Article Abstract:
The Central Council of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) has decided to postpone a decision on whether Palestine should have independent statehood until Jun 1999, but meanwhile Israel threatens to close the political headquarters of the PLO. The Israeli prime minister, Binyamin Netanyahu, alleges links between the POLO and Palestinian Authority (PA), though the move is seen as electioneering by Netanyahu. Palestinian leader, Yasser Arafat, has succeeded in his diplomatic maneuvers both in terms of the decision on statehood, and in terms of failing to react to provocation from Israel.
