The devaluing of a presidency
Article Abstract:
Brazil has been hit by a drop in the value of its currency which has affected the country's stabilization policies, previously successful in curbing inflation and promoting growth. Loose fiscal policy contributed to the crisis, and help from the International Monetary Fund was not enough to prevent the departure of investors. High interest rates were also opposed by industrialists and some senior politicians. Brazil needs to carry out reforms so that this crisis becomes an opportunity and economic and social problems do not worsen.

Martine Aubry, France's accidental politician
Article Abstract:
French cabinet minister, Martine Aubry, is responsible for employment, women and the family, racial integration, urban affairs, social security and health. She is seen as having integrity and honesty. She first fought an election in 1995 and is fond of art and cooking, rather than developing a network to strengthen her political career. She has supported a 35-hour week in France. There is speculation that she could become a presidential candidate for the Socialist party on 2002.
