Johnson Electric was founded in 1959 by Patrick Wang's father, and now has almost 25% of the electric motor market. The firm is unusual in Hong Kong because it sticks to its core business, and Wang has introduced western management techniques such as working in teams and employee empowerment.

British coal miners are disillusioned and resigned to the likely fate of losing their jobs, even though they plan a strike on Apr 2, 1993. The old tradition of coal mining is gone whether or not the pits close.
