The end of the year is nigh...
Article Abstract:
UK businesses will be celebrating the arrival of the new millennium in several different ways, such as closing down offices over the New Year period or raising money for charity by donating wages to good causes. Virgin Hotels Group is sponsoring a giant street party in the Scottish city of Edinburgh, although the firm will shut its own offices during the celebrations. Community projects will benefit from the involvement of large corporations, such as McDonalds, which are enrolling on the Millennium Dome's National Programme.

Northern lights: Small and isolated are not attributes usually associated with successful export markets. But what Iceland lacks in size it makes up for in spending power
Article Abstract:
Iceland has one of the highest per capita incomes in the world. It imports over 98% of its manufactured goods and it is an ideal starter market for new exporters. Its total population is 275,000 and Iceland is also a promising market for retailers. High street department store Debenhams is to open its franchised store in Reykjavik in 2001. However Iceland does not enjoy tariff-free status and does not need to conform to European health and safety standards.
