The excuse vanishes
Article Abstract:
A security clampdown in Guinea followed an army mutiny in 1996, and the problems in Guinea were overshadowed by those of its neighbors such as Sierra Leone. Guinean forces were included in the peacekeeping force in Sierra Leone, and rebels from Sierra Leone made border raids into Guinea. A peace agreement in Sierra Leone could end the conflict in that country, and this wouldmean that there would be less justification for the clampdown in Guinea.

The speaker vanishes
Article Abstract:
Polls indicate that the popularity of Newt Gingrich has fallen lower than that of Pres Richard Nixon prior to his retirement, so the Speaker was kept in the background at the 1996 Republican National Convention. For the most part, moderate Republicans were featured in an effort to attract undecided voters.
