The executive who enables
Article Abstract:
Remploy Chief Exec Tony Withey is a quiet but determined man who believes that the unique challenges of his job make it more rewarding. Remploy is the UK's biggest employer of disabled people, with 9,000 disabled employees. When Withey took over in 1988, Remploy had no focus or core competencies and was producing in largely low-tech, mature sectors. Withey recognised disabled people's vulnerability to change, and has introduced gradual restructuring. Remploy has moved into higher-tech production sectors and is also focusing more on its role as an employment agency.
