A new lease on sight: a pink bus rolls into China's towns, restoring vision
Article Abstract:
Hong Kong doctors and a businessman are bringing eyesight to rural China with their $250,000 Sight Care vehicle, a mobile ophthalmological suite. About 4.6 million people in China are blind from cataracts, as they cannot afford the operation in major cities and fear complications should local practitioners perform cataract surgery. Inspired by Orbis, a DC-10 converted into an international eye hospital, the pink Sight Care bus could presage nine more like it, serving China's provinces.
