Pacific Century CyberWorks is a Hong Kong company set up by Richard Li which is setting up a broadband Internet network based on satellites that could become the largest world wide. The company has been praised by banks, and is seen as offering great potential, though it only appears to have existed for eight months. The business had been developed for a two year period prior to the acquisition of Tricom Holdings by Li to list his real estate conglomerate's Internet ventures.

Cable and Wireless has a new chief executive, Graham Wallace, who has annunced plans to sell the group's stake in One-2-One. Other companies are moving into mobile telephony, while Wallace is seeking to withdraw, and he also plans withdrawal from another popular activity, broadband cable, though a swap with Telewest. He argues that Cable and Wireless needs to be focused and he sees the internet and business customers as offering opportunities for a company with a global reach.

Iridium has seen a drop in its stock price after Motorola announced that it did not plan further investments in Iridium unless other stockholders also invest. Iridium's future could depend on whether other investors are prompted by Motorola to invest. Iridium appears to have made an accurate assessment of the market, but has gained few subscribers. The company has been affected by bad marketing. The company's perfrmance could improve, but it also has high costs.
