The never-ending question
Article Abstract:
There is a debate on the links between free trade and economic growth, with the findings of one paper that trade promotes growth challenges by another study. Poor performance may be due to a number of causes, not just those related to trade, and corruption is one possible cause. There is a need for more studies of individual economies rather than crude measures that do not surivive close scrutiny. Such studies do tend to indicate that trade helps to promote growth.
