The new financiers
Article Abstract:
Financing and insuring big business are activities that are starting to converge as banks move into insurance and insurers move into banking. Convergence may be more evident in wholesale financial services rather than at the retail end of the market. Banks may combine assets like bonds and loans and reduce aggregate risks on portfolios in this way. They can then join forces with investment banks and develop new ways of attracting capital that can be pledged.
