The new trade war
Article Abstract:
World Trade Organization talks in Seattle have sparked protests from different organization, some linked to labor unions and environmentalists. The different groups sometimes have contradictory agendas, and many groups are concerned that violence during the protests could hamper their cause. The trade policy of the Clinton administration reflects the concerns of many protesters, with its stress on environmental and labor standards. There may be less support for free trade in the US as a result of the protests.
