Article Abstract:
It is very difficult to predict the future of Asia, as the region is still full of complexities and contradictions. There are strong progressive forces at work in Asia, but it must also be realised that there are retrogressive currents too. Striving towards further economic growth will bring a regional focus, but this will clash with the revival of awareness of ethnic hostility. The joint management of regional issues will be equally as important as that of domestic issues within individual Asian countries.
