The not-so-mysterious East
Article Abstract:
Stock markets in Eastern Asia operate differently than European and US markets, which explains why sometimes they are up when Western markets are down and vice a versa. A study by Stephen Brown and Toshiyuki Otsuki shows that Eastern markets are more integrated into the global capital market and are thus more effected by global investment.

Academic economists are increasingly working as expert witnesses for class-action suits, derivatives cases and cases involving the manipulation of securities or commodities exchanges. While they may work on more relevant problems, and make more money, they risk damaging their reputations.
