Council architects struggle under dual onslaught
Article Abstract:
The Society of Chief Architects of Local Authorities surveyed its 300 members about the position of public sector architects. The survey revealed a change in the status of the architects' department in many councils. This is due to shortage of money and preparations for compulsory competitive tendering legislation. Many councils have restructured and abolished separate arfchitects' departments while others have non-architect chief officers. All the architects surveyed expected further radical changes in the future.
