The victors of Kosovo
Article Abstract:
The peace settlement ending the cnflict over Kosovo, Yugoslavia, has been well received by the US public, and satisfaction with President Clinton has increased. There are some 800,000 refugees from Kosovo, Slobodan Milosevic is still in power, and there has been devastation in Kosovo and Serbia as a result of the bombing. No American lives were loss in the conflict and this could lead to expectations that wars can be waged without loss of life. The North Atlantic Treaty Organization has remained united, partly due to Clinton's foreign policy. There is, however, a danger of worsening relations between the US and Russia.

The population of Kosovo was between 1.9 milllion and 1.6 million prior to the conflict, and around 600,000 are displaced in Kosovo, with a further 900,000 having fled the country, according to one estimate from the US State department. Serbia had started to displace Kosovans prior to the conflict, and islikely to claim that any who died were killed in battle.
