Article Abstract:
The World Architecture Exposition in Nara has been postponed until 2010, although several buildings for the Expo have already, or will shortly open. The triennial conferences began in 1992, and the 1998 conference had the them of urban design and historic buildings, contrasting Nara with London. The ancient city of Nara has had to come to terms with its expanding new areas, pollution threats, traffic chaos and tourism. The new structures contrast with the shrines and monuments of old Nara.
