The UK would not be committing 'economic suicide' if it left the European Union (EU), according to an updated study by Martin Howe and Brian Hindley. The study found that, whatever the political benefits of membership, there would be little economic impact one way or another if the UK left the EU.

Chalk and cheese: Norway and Sweden
Article Abstract:
Norway and Sweden are at odds with the European Monetary Union. Norway voted against the European Union and Sweden voted for the EU by only a small majority. Sweden is working toward reducing its budget deficit to join the EMU, while Norway is acting like an isolationist country.

France seems to be cautious and even negative towards the imminent prospect of enlarging the European Union (EU). It has even been suggested that France could veto enlargement. Twelve nations are currently in negotiations.
