Airlines keep people on hold over whereabouts of passengers
Article Abstract:
Airlines that serve Asia have begun instituting system-wide regulations barring the disclosure and release of passenger information. The establishment of stricter rules covering disclosure are the consequence of the passage of laws in certain Asian countries which have made it illegal for airlines to violate the privacy of their passengers. Among the first to formalize their disclosure policies were Cathay Pacific Airways, Dragonair and Singapore Airlines. Other non-Asian carriers have since followed suit, including Northwest Airlines, British Airways and United.

Air route offers tourists a glimpse of once-isolated, timeless Lijiang
Article Abstract:
Yunnan Airlines now offers 35-minute, four-times-weekly trips to the southwestern Yunnan province of Lijiang. Although the bucolic province was devastated by an earthquake in Feb. 1996 that killed 250 people, Lijiang's formal opening to tourists began with the construction of the Lijiang airport and eight hotels in 1995. The province's attractions include a performance by the Dayan Ancient Music Troupe, the central street market, the old section of town, souvenir stores, English cafes and the nearby mountains.

It took a lot of patience
Article Abstract:
The shutdown of the United States air transportation system after September 11 has continued to cause disruptions to flights to and from Asia. Reservations lines have been inundated with calls, flights have been cancelled, and some travelers have booked reservations on multiple flights, hoping that one of them will actually take off. The fact that overseas carriers did not have planes where they were supposed to be due to the closure of US airspace complicated matters.
