Three kings
Article Abstract:
Kings were sometimes cruel in Africa, but therer were a variety of political systems involving kings before colonial rule. The colonial powers sought kings who were compliant, and this meant that independence movements targeted kings. Kings are again becoming important in Africa. They include the king of Swaziland, Mswati lll, who rules by decree and has permitted few reforms. The Kabaka of Uganda, King Ronnie, was once in exile, but kings were restored after Yoweri Museveni gained power in 1986. Meanwhile, Zulu king, Goodwill Zwelithini, seeks to promote Zulu culture, and plays an important role in South Africa where ethnic and party politics are linked.

Can Kurds and Turks settle?
Article Abstract:
Turkey faces ethnic divisions highlighted by an international political dispute over Turkey's attempt to extradite Kurdish guerilla leader, Abdullah Ocalan, who has taken refuge in Italy. Ocalan heads the Kurdish Workers Party (PKK) which is seeking autonomy in some areas of the south east of Turkey. Turkey faces political instability and economic problems, and nationalism tends to be used by political parties, while outside mediation appears unacceptable to many Turks.
