Time for retreat?

Colombian officials are angry that the US once again decertified Colombia due to its drug trafficking, despite real progress made by Colombia. They are also angry that Mexico received certification, despite its drug scandals. The controversy may force the US to reexamine its drug policy.

Arm-twisting in Latin America
Article Abstract:
The war on drugs cannot be won using spiteful tactics like decertification. The US Senate is wisely ignoring a House resolution calling on reversal of Bill Clinton's controversial re-certification of Mexico. De-certification of Colombia will only arouse animosity.
