Too fast, too loose
Article Abstract:
The entrepreneurs who flourished under Vietnam's economic reforms of the early 1990s have failed to thrive. The reasons for their failure include competition with a state sector benefiting from government favouritism, poor management skills, extravagant property speculation, and fraud. The government and the media are keen to expose corruption. Some high-profile cases include those of Peregrine Capital Vietnam Managing Director Nguyen Trung Truc, arrested in Apr 1997 on tax evasion charges, and Minh Phung Co. Chairman Tang Minh Phung, arrested for fraud charges.

Fit to sprint: the Joong-Ang Ilbo is shaking up Korean newspapers
Article Abstract:
Publisher Hong Seok Hyun of the Joong-Ang Ilbo newspaper has revolutionized South Korean media with his aggressive changes in pursuit of the Hangul, the country's baby-boomers. Contravening a long conservative tradition among the papers, he added pages, devoted more space to lifestyle articles and other non-political coverage, switched to a morning publication schedule, added more color and graphics, and began running all stories left-to-right, not top-to-bottom. The other leading newspapers have followed suit.
