TotalFina rejects Elf counterbid, says it will pursue takeover
Article Abstract:
The board of directors of TotalFina SA turned down Elf Aquitaine SA's takeover offer of 50.3 billion euros. Elf's takeover offer was launched in defense to TotalFina's previous hostile bid on July 5, 1999. The board of TotalFina announced that it would continue to follow up on its billion-dollar takeover proposal for Elf. TotalFina is planning to pursue the shareholders' tender bid of 66.67% of the shares in Elf.
