Tractebel joins its parent in bid for water plant
Article Abstract:
Tractebel SA, a Belgium-based utilities group, and its French parent Suez Lyonnaise des Eaux SA, have formed a 50-50 joint venture to bid for a contract to create a water-treatment facility north of Brussels worth between 15 billion Belgian francs and 17 billion Belgian francs equivalent to $13.7 million and $468.8 million respectively. Tractebel's CEO Philippe Bodson said at its annual shareholder's meeting that Suez Lyonniase intended Tractebel to join the bid because it needed a Belgian partner. The French parent firm lends full support to Tractebel's international development, said Tractebel chairman and Suez Lyonniase CEO Gerard Mestrallet.

Saab-Embraer talks may yield contract
Article Abstract:
Saab AB of Sweden is negotiating with the Brazilian company Empresa Brasileiras de Aeronautica SA (Embraer) to agree on a subcontracting deal instead of a complete merger. Saab might be targeting new orders for 100 to 150 of the JAS 39 Gripen military airplane for the Brazilian Air Force in the next millenium, predicted an analyst. The Brazilian contract would be indicative of Saab's local presence, stated the insider. Saab, which has furnished the Swedish military with 50 JAS fighters, is concentrating on domestic defense orders and satellite operations at the moment.
