Tractebel the intractable
Article Abstract:
Tractebel chief executive, Philippe Bodson, has offered to resign. The company is 51% owned by Compagnie de Suez, and Bodson sought to manage it as an independent firm. He was supported by political and public opinion in Belgium and by the Belgian press. Tractebel is Belgian and Suez is French. Bodson sought a merger between Tractebel and Electrabel, and the Suez stake would have been diluted had Tractebel issued stocks for the takeover. The reorganization that Bodson proposed may still be carried out, though he is leaving.
