Trading firms learn lesson: shift to Japan's growth areas is winning fans
Article Abstract:
Stock speculators are urged to invest in trading companies which are slowly veering away from their traditional role of acting as middlemen between industrial sectors. Trading companies have seen the potential of diversifying and investing in other areas, especially the telecommunications industry. A number of trading companies' bad investments during the 1980s contributed to inflation in Japan. Trading houses have learned from the sad experience and are presently concentrating on profitable new ventures.

Cheap fares stay grounded
Article Abstract:
Japan's goal of achieving cheaper domestic air fares that may result from the country's decision to liberalize its aviation sector may not be achieved soon due to some hindrances. Cheaper air fares are harder to achieve due to the launching of a five-year-airport expansion project that costs 3.6 trillion yen, plus the busy routes of planes which are presently controlled by a tripoli consisting of Japan Airlines, All Nippon Airways and Japan Air Systems.
