Transgas is to be privatized
Article Abstract:
Transgas (Prague, Czech Republic), natural gas transport company, will be privatized in 2002 at the earliest. Before the privatization it has to be transformed from a state enterprise into a joint-stock company. The yield from Transgas's privatization will depend on the stake the state will sell. The value of the whole of all Transgas is estimated at about CEK 60 bil. Transgas sells natural gas to Czech distribution companies, from the privatization of which the state should obtain about CEK 25 bil. According to preliminary results, Transgas generated a gross profit of CEK 1.5-1.6 bil in 2000 compared to CEK 8.8 bil in 1999. In 2000 it did not see a loss only due to profits from the transit of natural gas through the Czech Republic, which compensated losses from domestic gas sales. Its total proceeds increased to CEK 41.9 bil in 2000, 16.3% from 1999.
