Discoveries for all
Article Abstract:
Japan's NEC Corp has had two major research findings featured in scientific journals in 1993. NEC's Fundamental Research Laboratory in Tsukuba, Japan, had developed superthin wires by filling carbon nanotubes, which they developed in 1991, with lead. A team led by Robert Haushalter at the NEC Research Institute in Princeton, NJ reported the synthesis of an inorganic double helix structure from simple salts. Michiyuki Uenohara, former director of NEC's research laboratories, believes the results may have applications in biocomputing, the effort to design a computer which functions like the human brain.
