UAE choice of CN-235 reflects mixed fortunes for IPTN
Article Abstract:
IPTN has landed a $150-million contract from the United Arab Emirates to supply four CN-235-220 Maritime Patrol Aircraft (MPA) to fill the country's military transport requirements. The new CN-235-220s will also support the present CN-235s in UAE's military transport fleet, thus obtaining commonality amongst aircraft. The company will also supply two CN-235s to Australian company National Jet Systems (NJS), including an option for another five units of the aircraft, for coastal surveillance duties. The contract was the result of a memorandum of understanding between IPTN, NJS and British Aerospace Australia that aims to promote coastal surveillance solutions to other international markets.

The United Arab Emirates' procurement of the F-16 Block 60 aircraft was also seen as a contract that keeps market and new-model development opportunities open for the aircraft.
