UK: LEGAL & GENERAL TO SELL ISAS ONLINE

Legal & General is to launch an Internet-buying service for investors wishing to take out an individual savings account (Isa). Those people with GB[pound] 500 or more to spend on one of L&G's 22 Isa products can now apply online. L&G expects a lot of applications as people try and get in before the end of the tax year on 5 April. L&G has also decided to waive the annual management charge for Isas taken out before 30 April.

UK: SURVEY REVEALS POTENTIAL TOP THREE ISAS

Sales of around GBu2.3bn could be achieved between now and April by the three most popular ISA fund managers for the 2000/2001 tax year, Fidelity, ABN Amro and Invesco, with ABN Amro's UK Growth fund possibly capturing 10% of new ISA sales through IFAs. These findings are from a survey by Key Data, who asked over 400 IFAs which ISA they might recommend.

UK: COLONIAL FIRST STATE LAUNCHES ONLINE SHOP

Fund manager Colonial First State of Australia is planning to launch FirstNet Master in the UK. The service has been successfully pioneered in Australia, enabling supermarket-style users to trade and manage their portfolios online. In March 2000, Colonial bought Stewart Ivory of Edinburgh, UK, and the company has targeted the UK top 10 with a strategy of acquisitions and growth.
