UK: INCREASE IN ISA ADVERTISING BY FUND MANAGERS
Article Abstract:
Fund managers spent GBu 15.9mn on advertising in January and February 2001, an increase on the GBu 12.7mn spent in the previous year, for the Isa season. This increase was despite an predicted 30% fall in Isa business. The Isa market has become very competitive, with the four biggest companies, Legal & General (L&G), Scottish Widows, Fidelity and Jupiter, seeking domination. During the two years since they were first launched, Scottish Widows has spent some GBu 11mn on advertising Isas, Jupiter and L&G around GBu 8mn and Fidelity GBu 6.5mn.

UK: FUND MANAGER LEAVES MERRILL LYNCH
Article Abstract:
The Merrill Lynch UK Dynamic fund has experienced some cooling off from certain IFAs, with more expected, following the departure of Peter Davies, the fund manager, who has been poached by Lansdowne Partners in London. Mr. Davies was part of the Merrill UK specialist team which ran the offshore Most UK fund, and then the onshore UK Dynamic fund, launched in November 2000, which raised GBu 75mn. Merrill Lynch is expected to announce the new manager in February 2001 and has said that there are no plans to change the way the fund is run.
