UK Laing wins Chiltern Rail
Article Abstract:
The Office of Passenger Rail Franchising (Opraf) in the UK has offered 100% of passenger services to the private sector, and 42% have already been franchised out. The Chiltern Railway Co is the most recent franchise to be awarded to an MBO backed by 3i, venture capitalists and John Laing, construction company. Chiltern was selected for total route modernisation in the early 1990s, which attracted extra passengers.

UK transfers LTS rail franchise again
Article Abstract:
The London Tilbury & Southend (LTS) passenger rail line has again been transferred to the private sector, with the franchise awarded to Prism. Prism has been set up by a group of bus directors and has plans to purchase around six rail franchises. Also, the ScotRail franchise will be contended by Stagecoach and FirstBus, bus operators.

UK sells off first three rail franchises

Stagecoach, a bus company, has won the seven year franchise for South West Trains. It will retain the existing management and has plans to increase services without investment in new rolling stock. MBOs have been successful in the Great Western and London Tilbury & Southend franchises.
