UK: Norwich proposes public/private partnership
Article Abstract:
Norwich Union is calling for the introduction of compulsory individual health cover which could see the demise of private medical insurance in favour of a public-private health partnership with income-linked premiums. Discounted premiums would be available to the disabled and individuals on benefits. The proposals are to be discussed at a Labour Conference fringe meeting, and have been published by the National Economic Researchj Associates for Norwich Union. The proposals aim to take healthcare provision away from a two-tiered system which enables wealthier individuals to jump NHS waiting lists, towards a one-tier, free-choice system.
